Dosing dilemma?
by Ahyoka Lee
A nursing infant can reap the benefits of the teas the mother drinks through her breast milk. But what happens when a child is no longer breast fed ?
Glad you asked!
You can follow one of these two methods as a guide to determine the appropriate dosage for children.
1. Cowlings rule- Take the child’s age at his/her next birthday and divide by 24. The resulting fraction is the amount of the adult dosage the child can have.
i.e.
A 5 yr old will be 6 on their next birthday. The numeral 6 divided by 24 equals 1/4. He/she should have 1/4 of the adult dosage
2. Clark’s rule- Divide the child’s weight 150. The resulting fraction is the amount of the adult dosage the child can have.
i.e.
A 50 lbs child: 50 divided by 150 equals 1/3. He/she can have 1/3 of the adult dosage.
