Healthy habits every tea drinker should possess
by Ahyoka Lee
5 habits every tea drinker should have:
1. Fresh water is BEST!
You don't want water that tastes "funny".
Water that is too hard will extract extra astringency from your tea & give it a harsh brew. While water that's too soft will have a weak fuzzy-muddy cup. Use FRESH water, every time!
2. Don’t be a cheap steep.
Not all steeps are created equal. Properly steep each tea based on the correct length of time and with water at the correct temperature to get the most out of your tea-drinking experience.
Ahyoka Lee’s perfect guide to proper steeping:
White Teas: 175° F | 3 minutes
Green Teas: 175° F | 1-3 minutes
Oolong Teas: 180°-212° F | 1-5 minutes
Black Teas: 212° F | 5 minutes
Herbals: 212° F | 5 minutes
3. Brew up a new blend.
We all have our favorite blend but with so many tea blends out there, be inspired to try something new every now and then. Most companies offer samplers to make the decision process less complex & more convenient.
4. Bulk herbs vs Teabags
Not only does the tea bag contain more “dust” fannings rather than actual TEA itself but these tiny & sometimes toxic bags (most tea bags are made with plastic & contain chemicals) —- also prevent proper circulation required to pull out tea flavors.
In using tea bags, you develop bad habits like over brewing or squeezing excess tannins into your tea which have led many people to get used the astringency taste (strong or bitter) & losing its true natural flavor.
5. Pinkies up!
Dr.’s have suggested that drinking three to five cups a day is a good habit to have to help fight against illnesses/diseases & with improving your health and well-being.
